Brian Krebs has a great post at SecurityFix regarding the reasons you want to keep your computer secure even if you don’t think you have anything of value on it.
Krebs lists six ways bad guys like to use hacked PCs:
- Hosting illicit web sites for pirated software or phishing
- Turning them into zombie computers
- E-mail/Webmail attacks
- Stealing account credentials
- Stealing virtual goods
- Stealing financial data
